Made from solid brass, the Porter pairs a stepped round housing with a molded glass diffuser whose radial ribbing softens the light into an even glow. Its design takes its cue from the brass ceiling lights once fitted aboard ships, and it is sized for the kind of places those lights were made for: tight, low and close at hand.
Two sizes are offered. The 4.5-inch model is 1.5 inches deep and draws 12W, which makes it a fit for a closet, a narrow hallway or a small nook; the 6.25-inch model is 1.75 inches deep at 15W and suits a bedroom or a kitchen. Both finishes are brass through and through: Brass is a bright satin finish, and Antique Brass carries an aged patina that keeps deepening with time.
The LED is integrated and dims on an ELV dimmer, so the light can drop from full brightness to a low evening glow. It runs on 120V, installs to a standard US ceiling box with no special mounting hardware, and at under 2 inches deep it stays clear of a door swing under any standard ceiling.
