The Chesney Alabaster Wall Sconce stands a veined alabaster cylinder on a fluted, gold-finished base. The cylinder is open at the top, so part of the light rises straight up the wall while the rest passes through the stone, which glows with its own grey and amber veining. The base and a short arm connect it to a rectangular backplate set off to one side, which keeps the stone clear of the wall behind it.
It comes in one size: 6.3 inches wide, 14.6 inches tall and 5 inches deep from the wall, on a 4 by 4.7-inch backplate. That depth is modest for a stone shade, which lets it sit beside a doorway, along a corridor or on a stair wall without crowding the passage. In pairs it frames a banquette or a dining nook, and a single one works on a kitchen wall beside open shelving or on a bedroom wall beside the bed.
The sconce is hardwired to a wall box and should be installed by an electrician. It takes one E27 LED bulb, which is included, and at 8 watts it gives a soft, even glow rather than a work light. Dimming is available on request.
